To1Swerve is a rapper who was raised in North London and carries the legacy and lineage of the Trinidadian soil. He aims at sheer intentionality with his words and work as a whole. He's been in the game since 2019, constantly releasing singles and EPs since and is now on the verge of rolling out another EP that includes "Rain Down" as one of its singles. There's an immense power in presenting the best version of yourself to the world and to be that image of a lodestar for your audience. To1Swerve's verses sound like discipline, he has a growing taste in music and blends numerous sounds from as many places as possible.

Coming at it from a perspective of a listener who deeply appreciates the craftsmanship of rappers who inchoate a conversation between their roots and living a lifestyle that one can vouch for, To1Swerve's new single "Rain Down" got me instantly hooked. He has bold choices when it comes to certain sounds. For instance, he chooses to ease in on the beat while the beat's intro is mellow and mellifluous. Suddenly, one can hear an air of control that's being established as To1Swerve jumps in.

The hook piques your attention at a moment's notice and there are brilliant uses of imagery in his lyricism. He knows his mic, he knows what he needs for the words to land in. It's similar to what Jean Michel Basquiat would do with the words in his paintings: to cross them out for you to look deeper into them. This whole ordeal of not coming across as obvious is mostly easier said than done. It takes persistence and a lot of trial and error to come up with a vocal sound as unique as this.

To1Swerve's experience shines brightly here and it shows in his command over the beat. We can't wait to hear what his EP will entail and how this single in particular would work within the context of the entire body of work.
