Soek, otherwise known as Grant Borland is based out of Croatia and his work is ubiquitous in numerous forms of visual media. That explains the cinematic quality of the work he has been able to put out in quick successions in the span of a few years. From movie trailers to ads and T.V. shows, his music acts like a vehicle to drive the message forward. That does not limit him to becoming just a pawn in the game though. He has garnered attention for his unique recordings, bringing out the best from his collaborators across the world and honing the art of composing a symphony. With his new single, he has blown us away by his ability to transport the listener to a world he's familiar with and at the same time, a world he feels nostalgic for but hasn't had the chance to experience in his or her life.

The single's title piqued our curiosity as it is spelled out as, "We were taller then". Those set of words make up such an ambiguously thought provoking first impression to the onlooker and at the same time, sums up the sound of the music pretty well too. The song's tempo is quite fast and with a free flow, one piano layer is accompanied by another in a way that feels much like a conversation. The way it is produced and mixed together feels as if each note marks a new memory entering your head while you're imagining things from your childhood. There's virtue in looking back but it gets better when you do it with style. Soek teaches you to do exactly that!

It instantly, for my money, belongs to the same league as Jon Brion's score for the film "Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind". Like a wave, it switches its sides and hops up and down, replenishing the observer of this symphony. Soek's influences, we know for certain, are well thought out and deeply woven together in a tapestry of sounds that result in sheer originality coming out of each note he chooses to put in his music.
What Soek has managed to achieve with this track truly brings us together to be the beholder of what he is committed to do next.
