John Muka Band has released their 2025 album titled “Things I Can’t Change.” The Jacksonville-based band is led by co-writers John Muka and Troy Towsley. Their roots trace back to the early 2000s, shaped by long-term collaboration and lived experiences. The duo’s musical foundation was influenced by jam-band culture and artists like the Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and Dead & Company. Additionally, Troy’s background aligns with Pixies, The Replacements, and Oingo Boingo. Together they lay strong emphasis on authenticity, emotional honesty, and reflective songwriting. Their music feels rooted in resilience, acceptance, and personal reckoning.

"John Muka Band makes “Things I Can’t Change” like a lived-in album rather than a curated concept."

Their latest album is dynamic and emotional in its own way. The collection opens with “A Moments Thought," setting a contemplative and introspective tone focusing on self-awareness, regret, accountability, and emotional endurance. Tracks like “No Reason” and “Not Me” explore internal conflict and identity struggles. “Be There” and “No One Is There” contrast connection versus isolation, both lyrically and musically. “Foolish Pride” reflects on ego and the consequences of emotional stubbornness. “Know What To Do” leans into quiet resolve rather than dramatic revelation.

The title track serves as the emotional anchor of the album, embracing acceptance as a way to move forward in life. “Cornered” and "Heavy Load,” on the other hand, carry heavier emotional and sonic weight, giving the collection the depth it requires. The jam-inspired arrangements allow the songs to breathe and evolve naturally while the acoustic foundations are layered with fiddle, piano, and textured rhythms. Overall, the album lingers through mood, memory and and emotional intensity.
