Garrett Anthony Rice’s “The Prisoner” is one of the tracks I have been hooked to since its release. Hailing from County Dublin and now based in Greystones, County Wicklow, he comes across as someone who thinks big and executes even bigger. After debuting under the alias (i) CONSULT in 2023, he’s stepped into his solo space with serious intent. Working alongside producer Christ Potter (known for working with The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, and Richard Ashcroft) already speaks volumes about his recent project.

“Garrett Anthony Rice creates a cinema of his own with his charismatic vocals and dramatic storytelling.”
“The Prisoner” is one of the very few tracks that have a cinematic rhythm, story, and background to them. It feels like you are stepping into the theatre to experience a sonic masterpiece. The serial-killer narrative is chilling, but what really hit me was the twist—the captor becoming the captive. That shift is unsettling and brilliant. There’s a clear Bowie-esque storytelling energy, especially in the dramatic emotional arc that swings from darkness to light and back again. Garrett’s vocals feel theatrical and the production recorded between Kore Studios in London and Chris Potter’s studio in Bournemouth sounds layered and cinematic. If this is the intensity we’re getting from the singles, Rice’s upcoming 18-track double album “EQUINOX” is shaping up to be something worth staying tuned for.
