Dorian’s ‘Reconnected’ Is a Whimsical Journey Through Love and Nostalgia

After analysing each and every aspect, every flavour this divine album comes in, I just have one thing to say: maybe Frank Ocean is on a music break, but there are a lot of vocals and artists that carry forward his essence, and Dorian has to be one of them. Starting strong with ‘US 4EVER’, I get a lot of Frank’s ‘Pyramids’ meeting the classic golden period of early 2000s R&B. This is slow, delectable, and very refreshing for a love song. ‘BAECATION’, however, feels like a leap ahead in time, as it has got a lot of grooves and playful textures. It’s soft, disco-y, and almost feels like an escape after having a long day. Galaxy themes: imagine a Dua Lipa collab on this! This is such a beautiful song; I fell in love. Then the mood of the album transcends into a more serious, yet thrill-packed and early 2000s fun vibe with ‘WHEN YOU’RE WITH ME’. This serves as a banger crossover track that’s both rejuvenating and nostalgic, and I can easily see something like this playing behind the captivating Gossip Girl. More about having fun and losing track of time when you’re with the person you love, this is super cute. Next up, the mood becomes a little more ambient and mellow with ‘#DREAMLOVE’. Talking about the kind of love all of us wish to reach in our lives, this is coy, dreamy, and very exciting to listen to, something one can listen to over and over to manifest it into reality.

‘WAKE ME’ is an astonishingly powerful track that starts to ooze into your brain the moment you start listening to it. Putting your mind on a whole new vibration, this is soft, passionate, and very dreamy. ‘OOO’, on the other hand, is the party banger that elevates this album to a whole new level. A fast-paced backtrack coupled with very danceable and groovy lyrics, this is a track I can absolutely see blowing up on social media. The bridge on this one, however, feels like the best part of the song. ‘GO!’, matching the same power-packed flow but mixed with an essence of Afro-pop, is a melody that makes this album a no-skip one, and I bet a lot of us will come back to this particular blissful tune simply because of how elevating and soulful it is. Last but not least, I’d like to talk in detail about the title song, ‘RECONNECTED’. A surreal moment that feels like a splash of nostalgic pop, this feels like 2017 all over again. Soft, easy on the ears, and just an unskippable beat that echoes from your ears straight to your soul, this carries a lot of reminiscence, resurrection, and youthful energy, inspiring you to yearn for and look back at the beautiful memories you have with the other person. All in all, this album is genuinely so thoughtfully curated and is packed with a lot of awe-inspiring hits that leave you inspired and hopeful.
