You will feel broken, shattered, and betrayed after listening to Love Ghost’s “Car Crash”
“Car Crash” is Love Ghost’s attempt to create an immersive emo rock track, and they have exceptionally captured the hearts of every listener. The track lyrically talks about fragile relationships that don’t last long despite tender care. The piano keys form a haunting melody, while the percussive elements and Love Ghost’s vocals carry the pain woven into this track. If you have ever gone through a heartbreaking moment in your life, you will definitely resonate with “Car Crash.”
We also got a chance to interview Love Ghost. Here is what they have to say about his recent release, art, and musical journey:
Where did the inspiration for the song come from?
Yeah, I don’t want to trauma dump you but hey you asked for it ;) so I’ll tell the story behind it. Basically I dated a supermodel for a month and then things abruptly came to a collision and we didn’t speak for another six. The relationship was a mix of ups and downs and had this energy that it was always a second away from exploding, which eventually did. The relationship ended suddenly, no good-bye, just silence. The next time I heard from her she was in the hospital because she got hit by a car and was pinned against a truck which altered her ability to walk. It felt like the universe had taken the metaphor that I'd been living with—love as a car crash - and turned it into a horrifying reality.
Who contributed to making this song?
Me, Daniel Alcala and Cheska Zaide.
How difficult is it for you as an artist to share your personal experiences with people through music? Do you see this as a safe space to express yourself, or do you sometimes feel hesitant because of judgement?
Sharing my experiences through music never feels safe, it feels like giving away pieces of myself to strangers. But that’s why I do it. The fear, the judgment, the unknown it all turns the song into something bigger than me. Once it’s out there, it’s no longer mine, and that mystery is what keeps me creating.
What makes “Car Crash” a must have on someone’s emotional playlist?
To me, the defining characteristic of this song is that it isn’t polished or sugarcoated—it’s raw, and honest. To me it captures the feeling of knowing something will hurt but diving in anyways.
Your lyrics often touch on trauma and mental health. Do you see your music more as a form of personal catharsis, or as a way to connect with listeners who are going through similar struggles?
I remember writing one of the first songs that dealt with trauma. It was late at night in a tiny, half-empty apartment in L.A., the kind of place where the walls feel like they’re pressing in on you. I was scribbling lines on scraps of paper, trying to get the chaos in my head out, and at the same time, I imagined someone else, somewhere, reading them and feeling seen.
You have performed on four continents so far. Out of all the tours, which has been the most memorable moment and why?
The craziest moment happened in Hamburg. We were in this packed, underground venue, the kind where the walls sweat and the floor shakes with every step. Mid-set, the stage literally collapsed under us, amps, cables, and all of us hitting the floor in a tangle. The crowd didn’t even flinch; they just surged forward, screaming and laughing as if the collapse was part of the show. Somehow, we kept playing while tangled in the wreckage. By the end, the entire venue felt like one giant, living organism chaotic, electrified, and completely unstoppable. That night, Hamburg didn’t just watch us play; it tore us apart and put us back together again. I also remember a show in Monterrey where a pack of stray Rottweilers ran into the venue, they didn’t bite anyone or anything, just howled during the set. That was pretty cool.
What makes Love Ghost humble and grounded in their art, even after global recognition, features and major collaborations?
I have a lot of goals that I’am yet to reach, so I’m sure that contributes, but honestly no matter what I do I still have this over-bearing dark energy inside of me that tells me I’m not enough and what I’ve done doesn’t truly matter.
You are known for blending different genres like alternative rock, grunge, metal, pop-punk, acoustic, hard rock, and others. How do you navigate between these styles for your songs? What does the process of choosing a genre for an upcoming track look like?
I mean usually the songs just sorta write themselves…we follow the feelings and let the tracks shape itself. By the end it’s whatever it needs to be. Rules be damned.
If you were to make a completely different music video from this song, how would it look, and what would it signify?
I’d do a big Hollywood movie with an actual car crash into a fire and singing the song in slow motion as the car/building is spinning and exploding. That video would’ve had a much more literal symbolism.
What upcoming songs and collaborations is Love Ghost currently working on?
Well I just finished up an EP for next year that I am very excited about. Stay tuned for more details.
